Quest Item Names That Don't Match Your Inventory

Mistfall Hunter’s battle pass hands out repeatable quests that ask you to use a number of a specific item. Several of those quests name the item with a phrase that never appears in your bag, which leaves you holding what looks like the right thing while the counter refuses to move.

This is a localisation mismatch, not a missing item: the quest strings and the item names were evidently translated on separate passes, so the same object can carry two different English names in two different parts of the UI.

Mappings players have worked out

On the Demonhunter Jar, the player who identified it added a practical note: you can carry six into a raid and use them on the first six monsters you meet, which is enough to clear the quest in a single run.

The player who originally hit the problem had assumed the Demonhunter Jar was an incendiary and burned a run finding out it was not. Their description of the process is the useful part: they used every tactical item one at a time and watched the counter, and the correct one registered exactly once.

Where this comes from, and how far to trust it. Both mappings come from a single Steam discussion thread — one player reporting, another correcting. Neither has been confirmed by Bellring Games, and no developer or moderator has replied to that thread. They are the best information published, not official answers. If a mapping turns out to be wrong, the counter simply will not move, which costs you a run rather than anything permanent.

The wicker basket case, which may be something else

A separate quest asked for ten wicker baskets. The player looted one from a box, later found another container with the same name and collected from it twice more, and the quest still would not complete.

That does not obviously fit the naming-mismatch pattern — the names matched. It may be a quest that only counts baskets from a particular source, or a straightforward bug. We do not know, and are recording it here rather than guessing, because a reader hitting the same wall is better served knowing somebody else hit it too.

Sealing wax acid, and other names nobody has identified

“Sealing wax acid” is one of the most frequently searched Mistfall Hunter item phrases, and it does not appear in any of the community databases that index the game’s 530 non-gear items. It fits the pattern on this page — a phrase that reads like a quest string rather than a bag entry — but no one has published which item it maps to.

If you have seen this string in game and know what it wants, that is genuinely useful information and there is nowhere it is currently written down.

Working out which item a quest wants

Until the naming is fixed, the reliable method is the one the reporting player used:

1. Take the quest, then open your tactical items and use them one at a time.
2. Watch the quest counter after each use rather than at the end of the run.
3. The moment the counter moves, that is the item — note the bag name against the quest name so the next repeat costs you nothing.

Carrying six of a candidate item into a raid, as suggested for the monster-hunting vessel, makes this cheaper: you get six attempts at the counter in one run instead of one. Whether you live long enough to spend all six is a different question, and that one comes down to the class you take and to how extraction works — a run that ends early ends the test with it.
