Shadowstrix
- Dagger
- Dual Blades
The mobility and crowd-control specialist, and the class the developers reined in hardest at launch. They said its skills offered too much mobility and overwhelming crowd-control chains, causing it to overperform — a description no other class received.
What the developers actually said
Most balance notes are neutral. The Shadowstrix’s were not: the developers wrote that certain skills still offered too much mobility and overwhelming crowd-control chains, causing the class to overperform in actual combat.
That language is the strongest signal in the entire launch-window document. The stated goal was to tone down “the excessive outplay potential that came from low-cost chain CC” — not to reduce its damage.
Dagger: two ways to use stealth
The Dagger is where the class’s identity lives, and it splits into two paths that treat invisibility completely differently.
Burst turns stealth into a single decisive moment. Breaking stealth grants a powerful short-term damage boost along with an energy recovery effect, which the developers describe as making the Shadowstrix’s invisibility an extreme threat. Combined with its crowd control and mobility skills, this is the path built for coordinating a sudden ambush with teammates — you are setting up one opening rather than fighting continuously.
Shadow Veil turns stealth into a rhythm instead. Built on Frequency Shift and Shadow Veil, it achieves cyclical stealth: you slip back into hiding immediately after striking, then re-enter from a different angle. The developers describe the result as weaving through opponents in a highly elusive playstyle. It trades the single big hit for never being where the enemy is aiming.
Dual Blades: burst now or ramp up
The Dual Blades split along a different axis — when your damage arrives.
Wound Burst accumulates wound stacks through high-frequency attacks, then detonates them for massive instantaneous damage. It leans on high mobility to dip into a fight, land the detonation and clean up. Damage Stacking instead grants a damage multiplier after landing multiple hits, so every attack in that state becomes more threatening than the last. It is the sustained-output option, and it wants you to commit to staying on a target rather than rotating off.
The specific changes
Crow Storm can no longer stack on players who are already stunned, and its damage was slightly reduced. That single change breaks the loop where one control effect guaranteed the next.
The overperforming mobility of Pursuit Strike and Jumping Pursuit Strike was moderately adjusted. The Heavy Strike Mastery talent was reworked rather than simply cut: it previously let Pursuit Strike cost zero energy but added a cooldown to the skill, and now removes that cooldown while keeping the zero-cost effect behind its own internal cooldown.
A general change also landed: increased damage from weapon-specific skills and talents now only takes effect when wielding the corresponding weapon — closing a gap where you could carry one stance’s bonuses into the other.
Dagger received hitbox work on Shadow Wheel Slash, a small reduction to the Lurking Blow talent’s damage boost, a new Ambush Momentum talent that grants a brief damage boost after casting Shadow Strike, and a fix so the Nimble talent’s cooldown reduction can only trigger once when an afterimage hits multiple targets. Dual Blades got a landing-consistency fix on Fang Rush.
Reading the nerf
A reduction aimed at chain control, applied to a class whose damage was left alone, describes a class that was winning through denial rather than through damage. If that is how you like to play, the identity survived the patch — the free wins did not.
Worth noting for context: in the community AMA the developers said they were looking into diminishing returns on crowd control to deal with inescapable CC combos generally, but that they do not plan to restrict well-coordinated CC chains between teammates. The Shadowstrix nerf is aimed at what one player could do alone, not at squads playing well together.

Shared Skill

Poison Crow Mark
Hold to aim, then throw a Poison Crow Mark in the target direction. Enemies struck take Physical Damage and have their Movement Speed and Dodge Distance reduced for a period of time.

Crow Storm
Hold to aim, then throw a black crow toward the selected area. When the crow reaches its destination, it creates a Crow Storm that continuously deals Physical Damage to enemies within range.
Weapon Skill

Sneak
Crush crow-feather dust to enter Stealth for a period of time. Stealth allows the Shadowstrix to approach enemies unseen and prepare an ambush or escape from danger.

Flash Stride
Dash forward a certain distance, dealing Physical Damage to enemies in your path.
Flash Stride has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

Smoke Bomb
Throw a Smoke Bomb at your feet, causing the vision of every target within the area to become Obstructed.
While standing inside your own Smoke Bomb, your visible range is greater than that of other affected units.

Shadow Strike
Leave a shadow at your starting position and Dash forward, dealing Physical Damage.
After a brief delay, the shadow dashes toward your current position, dealing additional Physical Damage and inflicting Stunned on enemy targets it touches.

Inspiring Impale
Thrust forward, dealing Physical Damage to enemies hit and restoring Energy.
Inspiring Impale has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

Spinning Slash
Spin and dash forward with a powerful strike, dealing Physical Damage to enemies hit.
Spinning Slash has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

Phantom Shift
Hold to aim and select a destination. When aiming ends, teleport to the selected location.
After successfully teleporting, gain increased Movement Speed for a period of time.
Phantom Shift has a maximum teleportation distance.
Basic Skill

Shadow Wheel Slash
Perform a three-stage attack sequence that deals Physical Damage to enemies hit.
After each stage of Shadow Wheel Slash, press an attack button to perform a branching attack. Each branching attack restores a certain amount of Energy.
The time available to continue between stages is limited. If the sequence is not continued in time, Shadow Wheel Slash resets to its first stage.

Flurry Strike
After performing a Light Strike with the left mouse button, press the right mouse button to move backward and then dash forward, dealing Physical Damage.
Hold the right mouse button to perform a Lv. 1 charge.
Lv. 1 Charge: Increases the Damage Multiplier and dash distance.

Bloody Blade Dance
Hold the left and right mouse buttons to channel a continuous Blade Dance, repeatedly attacking the area in front of you and dealing Physical Damage to enemies hit.
Bloody Blade Dance deals increased damage to enemy Gyldhunters.

Fang Rush
Shortly after using Dodge, press the left mouse button to dash forward and deal Physical Damage.
After using Fang Rush, Dodge Energy does not recover for a period of time.

Pursuit Strike
Dash a short distance forward and perform a rapid multi-hit attack, dealing Physical Damage to enemies in front of you.

Frequently asked questions
Was the Shadowstrix nerfed in Mistfall Hunter?
Yes. The developers said certain skills offered too much mobility and overwhelming crowd-control chains, causing the class to overperform. Crow Storm no longer stacks on players who are already stunned, and its damage was slightly reduced.
Dagger or Dual Blades for the Shadowstrix?
Dagger carries the deeper talent kit — Shadow Wheel Slash, Lurking Blow, Shadow Strike and the new Ambush Momentum talent. Dual Blades received a hitbox fix to Fang Rush. Note that weapon-specific damage bonuses now only take effect with the matching weapon equipped.
What are the Shadowstrix's build paths?
Four. The Dagger splits into Burst, which converts breaking stealth into a short damage spike, and Shadow Veil, which cycles back into stealth after every strike. The Dual Blades split into Wound Burst, which detonates accumulated wound stacks, and Damage Stacking, which ramps a damage multiplier the longer you stay on target.
Is the Shadowstrix still strong after the patch?
A class that needed that much restraint was clearly winning fights beforehand. The nerf targeted low-cost chain crowd control specifically rather than the class's damage, so its mobility identity is intact.
