Mistfall Hunter Auction House

The Auction House is Pip's domain in Mistfall Hunter — a camp feature you reach by completing a single unlocking quest, and a place whose cipher vocabulary is entirely theirs. This page covers the one unlock we can verify, the eight cipher words that belong to the Auction House and how solid each one is, and the places the published record still has gaps.

What the Auction House is

The Auction House is a camp feature owned by Pip. In our quest table, Pip appears as the giver for ten quests across the record, and one of them — Pip’s Auction House! Grand Opening! — exists specifically to open the Auction House. In our cipher table, eight clue words carry the tag npc: Pip, npc_role: Auction House, making Pip the only NPC whose entire cipher vocabulary sits inside a single camp structure.

This page is deliberately not another copy of the full cipher word table. That page lists all 52 words and which of the seven camp NPCs owns each one. Here, the scope is narrower: what the Auction House is, how you unlock it, and the eight words Pip will pay the bonus for.

How to unlock the Auction House

The one quest in our record that opens the Auction House is:

Pip’s Auction House! Grand Opening! — objective: Talk to Pip

That is the whole of the unlocking fact we hold. The quest table records the quest giver as Pip, the objective verbatim as “Talk to Pip”, and the quest_line and step fields as null — the source did not record which quest line this belongs to or where in any progression it sits. We are not going to fill that gap with a guess.

What the record does tell us, from the same table, is that Pip gives ten quests in total, from the newcomer Pip’s Provision through the Pip’s Plan story branch to this Auction House unlock. That places the Auction House inside Pip’s world of quests without telling us exactly where in that world the unlock falls. If you are below level 5, you will not see the Decipher option on any camp NPC (two of three cipher sources state this), so the level gate applies here too — but the auction unlock itself is about completing the quest, not a level threshold.

The full quest table holds all 128 quests and is where you go to browse “what is in the game”. This page answers one narrower question — how do I get into the Auction House? — and stops wherever the record stops.

The eight cipher words that belong to Pip

Every cipher in Mistfall Hunter prints two clue words, and both belong to the same NPC. When either word on your cipher matches one of Pip’s eight, take it to Pip. The words split into two confidence tiers, and they are presented here the way our data records them — not the way a guide might want them to read.

Cross-confirmed: six words all three sources agree on

These six words are printed by all three independently published cipher tables — mistfallhunterguide.org, mistfallhunter.app and Game Rant — and each carries _corroborations: 3 in our dataset, with the confidence label “Three sources agree”:

WordEvidence
Elder EdictThree sources agree
MantraThree sources agree
PluckingThree sources agree
ScoreThree sources agree
Secret CacheThree sources agree
Tree HollowThree sources agree

Any cipher carrying one of these words goes to Pip, with the highest confidence the community tables can provide.

Single-source: two words with explicit risk notes

Two more words in the Auction House set rest on one source only, and our dataset marks both with an explicit _risk field. These are not settled in the way the six above are:

WordRisk note (verbatim from our dataset)
Hoarding“printed by Game Rant alone, and only as half of the pair “Haggling, Hoarding””
Prayer“printed by mistfallhunter.app alone, which itself attributes it to a single creator guide”

Hoarding sits at the boundary of the Haggling argument — the one cipher word the three sources genuinely disagree about. Game Rant lists Haggling twice: as “Barter, Haggling” for Cazarro and as “Haggling, Hoarding” for Pip, both marked only if paired together. The other two sources give Haggling to Cazarro outright and never mention Hoarding. Our cipher table resolves this by reading the pair: if your cipher pairs Haggling with Hoarding, Pip is the correct answer; if it pairs Haggling with Barter, Cazarro is. But that reading rests entirely on Game Rant’s single account, and the _risk note says so.

Prayer carries a different kind of risk: the only source that prints it is mistfallhunter.app, and that source itself credits a single creator guide rather than an independent table. So the word exists in the community record, but it has not been cross-confirmed the way the six above have.

For the full 52-word table with every NPC’s ownership, see the cipher words page.

Where the record stops

The data we hold does not answer several questions a player might reasonably ask about the Auction House. All of these are not in the record — our sources collected none of them, and we are not inventing figures:

  • Fees or commission rate — no number exists in our data.
  • Listing slot cap — how many items you can put up at once is unrecorded.
  • Auction duration — how long a listing runs is unrecorded.
  • Currency unit — the market is assumed to work in the game’s currency, but the Auction House’s own unit is not stated in our sources.
  • Level requirement — the Decipher option itself is gated at level 5 (two of three cipher sources state this), but the Auction House’s own unlock has no level figure in the quest record.
  • Quest line membership — the unlock quest has quest_line: null and step: null in our table, so we cannot say which story branch it belongs to or what must be completed first.

The one development-side fact we do hold is on the gear page: the Auction House gained more slots at launch and the automatic restocking mechanic was removed. That is a developer update fact, not a game mechanic figure — it tells you the system changed, not what its current limits are.

Why this page exists

The cipher page already covers the full 52-word system and the Haggling conflict. The gear page covers the equipment economy and where the Auction House fits into it. This page exists because the Auction House is its own place — with its own owner, its own unlock, and its own eight-word cipher vocabulary — and because the query “mistfall hunter auction house” deserves a page that says what the record supports and what it does not, instead of borrowing its answer from two other pages.

If you came here to look up which NPC takes your cipher, the cipher word table is the full reference. If you came here to understand what the Auction House does with items, the gear page covers the economy side. If you came here because you need to know how to get in and which words Pip owns — you are on the right page.

Frequently asked questions

How do you unlock the Auction House in Mistfall Hunter?

The one quest in our record that opens the Auction House is Pip's Auction House! Grand Opening!, and its objective is simply to talk to Pip. That is the only unlocking fact we hold: our quest table does not record which quest line this belongs to, which step it is, or whether any earlier quests must be completed first. Treat 'Talk to Pip' as the direct trigger and the surrounding progression as unrecorded.

Which NPC owns the Auction House ciphers in Mistfall Hunter?

Pip. In our cipher table, eight words carry the tag npc: Pip, npc_role: Auction House — Elder Edict, Mantra, Plucking, Score, Secret Cache and Tree Hollow are cross-confirmed by three sources, while Hoarding and Prayer each rest on a single source and carry an explicit risk note. Handing a cipher with any of these words to Pip is the correct move; the confidence differs per word.

What is the Haggling and Hoarding pairing about?

Game Rant is the only source that lists Hoarding, and it does so only as half of the pair 'Haggling, Hoarding' — both going to Pip. The other two sources give Haggling to Cazarro outright and never list Hoarding at all. The cipher table marks this with a risk note: the pairing is a single-source claim, so treat the Haggling+Hoarding→Pip reading as the strongest available lead rather than a settled rule.

Are there any auction house fees or limits in Mistfall Hunter?

No. Our records contain no fee rate, no listing slot cap, no auction duration, and no currency unit for the Auction House. These are gaps in the published data we hold, not features that do not exist. The one mention on our gear page describes the Auction House as gaining more slots at launch and losing automatic restocking — but those are development facts from the developer updates, not in-game mechanics we can quantify.

What is the difference between the Auction House page and the Ciphers page?

The Ciphers page covers all 52 cipher words across all seven camp NPCs — the full table for finding which NPC takes any word. This page focuses specifically on Pip and the Auction House: its unlock quest, the eight words that belong to it, and the confidence behind each one. If you have a cipher and know it says a Pip word, this is the page for the details; if you need to identify any word, the Ciphers page is the full lookup.
