The Blackarrow drawing a bow
Classes

Blackarrow

  • Bow
  • Archer and Hunter playstyles

The ranged class, split into an Archer playstyle built on fully charged shots and a Hunter playstyle built on high-frequency hits. The developers said it was slightly overturned in solo mode and overbearing in high-tier gear matches — the most direct statement about solo strength anywhere in the notes.

Two playstyles, one bow

Unlike the melee classes, the Blackarrow’s split is not two weapons — the official balance notes document one Bow with two talent paths. That is not a permanent state of affairs: the Official Launch Announcement says a second Blackarrow weapon was cut from the launch build for development-timeline reasons and will arrive in a future season.

Archer rewards fully drawn shots. Fully charged arrows carry excellent energy recovery, which the developers say gives the Blackarrow strong sustained combat potential — you are not forced to disengage to recover resources. Paired with that is the Mysticfly Arrow detonation mechanic, the source of the playstyle’s burst damage. The Sepsis talent used to boost splash damage outright; it now requires a fully charged bow to trigger the increase, with a higher splash multiplier in exchange. That is a straight trade of consistency for commitment.

Hunter rewards volume, and it is built on an ailment system rather than on raw hits. Its various debuff arrows apply status effects, and landing ordinary basic attacks extends the duration of those debuffs — so the loop is to apply an ailment and then keep the pressure on to stretch it. The developers extended the effective range of the Featherlight Arrow key talent and removed its fully-charged requirement entirely, explicitly to suit the playstyle’s high-frequency hit demands.

What got reduced

The nerfs landed on the special arrows rather than on the class’s core:

  • Mysticfly Arrow — True damage scaling slightly reduced, to lower its piercing effect against high-tier equipment affixes and stats
  • Paralysis Arrow — duration of its Exhausted state reduced
  • Shadow Step — charge-speed boost on breaking Stealth toned down

At the same time the developers realigned the no-cost special arrow talents with their playstyles and slightly buffed their raw power, with the stated goal of a “more distinct, impactful Archer/Hunter identity.” The ceiling came down; the floor went up.

Note the shape of that trade. The two talents that were buffed — Sepsis for Archer and Featherlight Arrow for Hunter — are the ones the developers said felt “poorly synergistic with their respective playstyles.” This was not a blanket reduction. It was a redistribution away from the arrows that worked regardless of build and toward the ones that only work if you commit to a path.

The solo line

One sentence in the notes is worth more than the rest for anyone who queues alone: the Blackarrow’s solo-mode performance was slightly overturned, and its skills were becoming overbearing specifically in high-tier gear matches.

Developers do not reduce a class that is losing. If you intend to go into the mist by yourself rather than in a squad, that is the clearest signal available — provided you accept that you are reading a description of the class as it was before the patch, not after.

It also matters that solo and squad are tuned separately. The developers stated in the community AMA that they collect data on Solo and Trio modes separately and make distinct adjustments rather than applying blanket changes. A Blackarrow nerf aimed at solo performance is not automatically a nerf to your squad play.

Blackarrow skills

All 17 skills the Blackarrow can use, grouped the way the game groups them — Archer's Arrow, Hunter's Arrow and Weapon Skill.

Archer's Arrow

  • Steel Arrow

Fine steel arrows deal Physical Damage on hit and can pierce one unit.

  • Concussive Arrow

Storm-imbued rune arrowheads burst into air waves on impact, dealing Physical Damage to enemies within range and inflicting Stagger. When fired at full draw, the air wave also knocks back affected enemies.

  • Lightning Arrow

Arrows wrapped in lightning deal Physical Damage on hit and create a lightning chain that jumps between nearby enemies.

Each enemy can only be hit once by the chain, and each successive jump deals reduced damage. Hitting terrain near enemies can also create a weaker lightning chain.

  • Bloodfly Arrow

Arrowheads coated with mysterious corrupted blood attract blood flies. The arrow deals Physical Damage on hit, while the flies remain on the target and continuously deal Physical Damage, with a portion converted to True Damage.

If the arrow hits terrain near enemies, the flies seek the nearest target with a reduced Damage Multiplier.

  • Splatter Arrow

The arrow shaft is coated in blood that splatters on impact, dealing Physical Damage to nearby enemies. Drawing the bow for longer increases the splatter area, although the splatter deals less damage than a direct hit.

Splatter Arrow has no cooldown, consumes no Energy, and can trigger all talent effects of a Normal Arrow.

Hunter's Arrow

  • Soundwave Arrow

Specially structured arrows emit sound waves from the ring around the arrow shaft after impact. Enemies within the affected area become Exposed for a period of time.

  • Barbed Arrow

Barbed metal arrows deal Physical Damage on hit. Enemy players who use Dodge shortly after being struck take additional Physical Damage.

The effect can trigger only a limited number of times. In solo mode, it can trigger fewer times, but each activation deals more damage. Monsters struck by the arrow continuously take Physical Damage.

Hitting terrain creates a Barbed Trap that applies the same debuff to enemies who touch it.

  • Paralysis Arrow

Arrowheads covered with medicinal plants release a small cloud of medicinal mist after hitting terrain or a character. Enemies inside the mist become Exhausted for a period of time.

  • Spore Arrow

Arrowheads coated with mushroom spores plant a mushroom after hitting terrain. After growing for a short time, the mushroom becomes a Construct trap.

When touched by an enemy or struck by an ally, the trap causes enemies within range to continuously take Physical Damage for a period of time. Enemy attacks can destroy the trap, and it disappears automatically after remaining active for too long.

In Thunder Ridge, spores accidentally brought from the Abyss have grown into a mushroom garden. Initially believed to be a new delicacy, the mushrooms proved otherwise after the first harvest. Now, Brandrgarde priests forbid bringing back any unidentified seeds from the Abyss. Hitting an enemy directly deals Physical Damage but does not plant a mushroom.

  • Featherlight Arrow

The arrow is made from a special lightweight material and fitted with broad stabilizing fletching. It travels at very high speed and is unaffected by Gravity.

Featherlight Arrow has no cooldown, consumes no Energy, and can trigger all talent effects of a Normal Arrow.

Weapon Skill

  • Scattershot

Load seven arrows onto the bow and fire them forward simultaneously, dealing Physical Damage to enemies hit and knocking them back.

Scattershot has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

  • Rapid Arrows

Enter Volley mode for a limited duration. Hold the attack button to rapidly fire up to five arrows, dealing Physical Damage.

Shooting during Volley does not reduce Movement Speed. Using Dodge ends Volley mode.

  • Frostblight Bomb

Hold to aim and throw a Frostblight Bomb. After hitting terrain or a character, it detonates following a short delay and Freezes enemies within range for a period of time.

Frostblight Bomb has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

  • Sky Piercer

Fully draw the bow and fire a powerful arrow in a straight line toward the crosshairs, dealing Physical Damage on hit. The projectile can pierce five units.

  • Shadow Step

Enter Stealth. After Stealth ends, Charge Speed briefly increases, and the skill can be used again within a short time to re-enter Stealth, up to three activations.

Collision with other units is ignored while in Stealth.

Shadow Step has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

  • Impact Grenade

Hold to aim and throw an Impact Grenade that can stick to characters or the environment. It detonates automatically after a delay or can be detonated early by using the skill again.

The explosion deals Physical Damage to enemies within range and knocks back every unit in the area. Knockback distance increases the closer a target is to the grenade.

Impact Grenade has a shorter base cooldown in trio mode.

  • Predator's Senses

Use a secret herbal mixture to heighten the Blackarrow's sense of smell, periodically detecting nearby enemies for a limited duration.

When an enemy player is within range, a temporary scent trail points toward the nearest target. The closer the enemy is, the more blood-red the trail becomes.

This skill has a limited number of uses per match.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Blackarrow good for solo play in Mistfall Hunter?

The developers said its performance in solo mode was slightly overturned, with certain skills becoming overbearing in high-tier gear matches. That is the most direct endorsement of a class for solo play in the notes — with the caveat that they reduced it for exactly that reason.

What is the difference between Archer and Hunter for the Blackarrow?

Archer is built on fully charged shots with strong energy recovery, paired with the Mysticfly Arrow detonation mechanic for burst damage. Hunter is built on an ailment system, where landing basic attacks extends the duration of debuff arrows. Both are Bow playstyles rather than separate weapons.

Does the Blackarrow get a second weapon?

Not at launch. The Official Launch Announcement states that the Blackarrow's new weapon will arrive in a future season due to development timelines, making it the only class shipping with a single weapon.

Which Blackarrow arrows were nerfed?

Mysticfly Arrow had its True damage scaling slightly reduced, Paralysis Arrow had the duration of its Exhausted state cut, and Shadow Step's charge-speed boost on breaking Stealth was toned down.
